Keenan Cornelius Awards First Black Belt to Polaris Veteran Miha Perhavec

Keenan Cornelius, the owner and head coach of Legion American Jiu Jitsu in San Diego, CA, has awarded his first-ever black belt to Miha Perhavec. Perhavec is a black belt in judo, as well as the co-owner of Legion AJJ alongside Cornelius. He is also the co-founder of Jiu Jitsu X, a new online platform for Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructionals. Perhavec hosts a cooking show, “Kitchen Tap,” which is available on Jiu Jitsu X.

Even without his black belt in BJJ, Perhavec is already a relatively accomplished grappler. He has a deep background in judo, which is popular in his home country of Slovenia. In terms of BJJ and submission grappling, Perhavec holds a 3-1 record in Polaris, losing only to 10th Planet stand-out Richie “Boogeyman” Martinez.

It’s notable that Perhavec is the first person to be awarded a black belt under Cornelius, who is a long-time elite competitor in both gi and no-gi grappling, and widely considered one of the most innovative and influential BJJ players in the world, often known for his lapel guard techniques. In late 2019, following a public split from Atos Jiu Jitsu, Cornelius and Perhavec opened Legion American JJ.
