Currently one of the top Gracie family representatives in gentle-art competition, Kayron was called on to do a supermatch with Rafael Lovato Jr. at the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo, coming up May 12 in Long Beach, California.
“I feel Lovato is a really experienced athlete; he has world titles at black belt, and that says a lot,” Kayron told GRACIEMAG.com.
Known for his rubber-like guard, Kayron will be taking on Lovato but he’s already looking ahead to the May 31 Jiu-Jitsu World Championship, which also goes down in Long Beach.
“For sure I’ll be there! I’m training a lot for the Worlds, which to me is the most important championship of the year,” he says.
The black belt is on a tear since winning the 2012 Pan, where he was crowned medium heavyweight champion and overcame some hurdles.
“At the Pan I was coming off an injury, so I feel the time sidelined from competition set me back some.”
The World Jiu-Jitsu Expo is a can’t-miss event. For 15 dollars (the price for tickets purchased in advance), participants gain access to seminars by Roger Gracie, Robert Drysdale, Ronaldo Jacaré and so many others, besides the anticipated No-Gi showdown between Nick Diaz and Bráulio Estima and the sport Jiu-Jitsu supermatches between Kron Gracie and Victor Estima, Kayron and Lovato, and Kyra Gracie and an opponent yet to be named.
