Held October 26–28 in California, the 2018 edition of the SJJIF World Jiu-Jitsu Championship featured not just top-notch classical jiu-jitsu matches, but also some brilliant displays of no-gi technique.
And Kaynan Duarte proved to be very much in his element. In 2017, as a purple-belt, he had made his way through numerous black-belts to earn a spot in the ADCC Worlds. Now a black-belt himself, he doesn’t look like he’s slowing down anytime soon.
The Atos fighter bagged two gold medals last weekend, beating the medium heavyweight and absolute fields. In the latter, Manuel Ribamar wasn’t in any mood to give him an easy win, but their bout wound up ending pretty abruptly. In Manuel’s first shot, Kaynan, weighed him down and attacked with an arm-in guillotine — which, with the right adjustment, results in extraordinary pressure.
