Fighting at the 2018 SJJIF Worlds — an event that rocked California last month — Kaynan Duarte did a bit of everything. The Atos representative took bronze in the absolute and saw his teammates Keenan Cornelius and Gustavo Braguinha fight for the title — but in the super-heavyweight division, it was his show.
Kaynan made his way through his bracket before meeting Arnaldo Maidana (Checkmat) in the final, and this duel was marked by Kaynan’s sweeps. His toolbox wide open, he performed four reversals in the course of the match. Arnaldo threw one sweep back at him, but couldn’t score more than two points to Kaynan’s eight.
