Jon Jones is making up for lost time.
Dana White confirmed January 5th that Jones will defend his light heavyweight title at UFC 235, facing Anthony Smith pending clearance from the Nevada State Athletic Committee. The organization now infamously did not approve Jones’ to fight in his recent bout against Alexander Gustafsson due to what it deemed abnormal results in a recent routine drug test.
Smith, the 30-year-old Texan and Mickey Doyle disciple, is coming off a short winning streak including a recent submission win over Volkan Oezdemir. He’s clear on his stance on the fight and Jones’ suspected PED use/doping:
“He’s the best ******* guy to ever fight, and regardless of what we say about him, I don’t think PEDs change that,” Smith told MMAjunkie.com. “I think he’s the best fighter we’ve ever seen, regardless.”
UFC 235 is slated for March 2 in Las Vegas.
