UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones has been charged with battery following an incident that allegedly happened at a strip club in April, according to Albuquerque, NM news outlet KRQE News 13.
A cocktail waitress at the venue claims that Jones “pulled her down to his lap and kissed her,” “slapped her inappropriately,” and “placed her in a chokehold and picker her up off the ground” while the fighter was visiting the club. The waitress also claims that Jones continued to touch her until he left, ignoring her requests to stop.
A bench warrant was issued for Jones after he failed to show up for a June bond arraignment. However, it appears that confusion about Jones’ address resulted in the warrant bouncing back, and Jones and his team first heard about the charges over the news. The fighter paid the $300 bond on Sunday, which led to his warrant being lifted.
Jones denies the allegations, telling KRQE through a spokesperson, “Today, the media told Mr. Jones about a false accusation launched against him and that paperwork had been sent to an incorrect address. However, after receiving the documents from the press, Mr. Jones immediately went to pay the small fee, and he, and multiple witnesses, stand ready to factually refute the malicious lies being told about him to the public.”
