Jon Jones And Brock Lesnar Reportedly Tested Positive For The Same Substance

UFC Interim Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar have more in common than being headliners in the world’s biggest mixed martial arts promotion.

According to a statement from the UFC, Lesnar’s in-competition sample from July 9 tested positive for the same substance found in his out-of-competition sample.

“The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Brock Lesnar that his in-competition sample collection from July 9, 2016, at UFC 200, has tested positive for the same substance as his previously announced out-of-competition collection on June 28, 2016.”

According to the Los Angeles Times, the substance in question may be clomiphene, an estrogen blocker.  It was also found in Jon Jones’ out-of-competition sample.

“An official with knowledge of Lesnar’s samples identified the banned substance as the fertility drug clomiphene, one of the two banned substances found in a June sample taken from former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones.”

Jon Jones was originally scheduled to fight UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 200. The match would have been a light heavyweight championship unification bout.  His match with Cormier was cancelled, though, after he failed an out-of-competition drug test.

UFC 200 was also supposed to be Brock Lesnar’s triumphant return to the cage after he had been out of mixed martial arts action for four years.

At first, it appeared that way, as Lesnar ground his opponent, Mark Hunt, to a unanimous decision victory.

But after being flagged for a failed drug test, it appears Lesnar’s return will be nothing more than another headache for the UFC.
