In 2013, Invicta fighter Miriam Nakamoto sustained a serious knee injury during a fight with Lauren Murphy. According to Nakamoto, the meniscus injury was holding her back from making a “comeback”… and the medical expenses associated with the treatment she’d need ($30,000, by her estimate) were likely going to prevent her from ever reaching her full potential again.
Over the weekend, though, Nakamoto shared screenshots from a conversation with commentator, comedian, and podcast host Joe Rogan. In the messages, Rogan reveals that not only would Nakamoto’s procedure be covered, but he would also be paying her travel expenses. The fighter expressed immense gratitude and celebrated getting a “second chance” thanks to Rogan.
“So …this happened today. I’m struggling to find the words. I’ve been trying to make a comeback for almost 6 years now. I’ve come close a few times. But I kept having difficulty with my knee. There’s not much to be down with a grade 3 lesion on a meniscus besides stem cell therapy. I didn’t have $30,000 so I did the best that I could, but I still always came up short. And then this happens today. I’m still in shock. Thank you @joerogan. See you soon Dr. Riordan!”
This isn’t the first interaction the two have had. In fact, Nakamoto was a guest on Rogan’s podcast in the past. Still, Rogan’s generosity for a friend in need is highly commendable.
