Jiu-Jitsu with vuvuzelas in New York

The Renzo Gracie Invitational, held this past 26th, was once again marked by the spirit of camaraderie among the over 400 students from Renzo Gracie’s academies signed up for the championship, not to mention stars like Matt Serra and so many other teachers and GMAs.

Nevertheless, the noise from Professor Romulo Bittencourt’s crew (Renzo Gracie Newark) caught attention, having brought with them to Hunter College in New York South Africa’s famed vuvuzelas. And Bittencourt’s team played them unabashedly every time one of their members stepped onto the mat to compete, reminiscent of the atmosphere in a soccer stadium.

“I hate those Renzo Gracie Newark guys!” joked master of ceremony “Black Rob” over the microphone.

Check out the highlights from the event through the lenses of Dan Rod.
