Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt Kody Steele Grapples With White Belt Weightlifting Coach Zack Telander

From pretty much day one of jiu-jitsu, we’re told that technique defeats size and strength. As we move through the ranks, we generally find out that this is a bit of a mixed truth. Yes, solid technique can often lead to us submitting someone who’s bigger and stronger but doesn’t know what they’re doing, but we can’t deny that being strong does help on the mats.

To test this out on the mats, black belt Kody Steele (who is very good at jiu-jitsu but is also strong) took on weightlifting coach Zack Telander (who is very good at being strong but also does jiu-jitsu) in a friendly grappling round. The two are friends, with Telander helping Steele with his strength goals and Steele helping Telander (who’s a one-stripe white belt) with his jiu-jitsu.

Still, the question hung in the air — would Steele’s experience on the mats be enough to dominate someone who makes a living out of being ridiculously strong?
