Jason Scully Raises $30,000 For Struggling Gyms

For those that are unaware, Jason Scully is the owner and face of Grappler’s Guide and he recently announced that he was going to set aside 40% of all of the site’s profits ready to donate to gyms struggling due to the recent Coronavirus pandemic and the measures used to stem the spread. Well now that the period for this donation has ended, it turns out that Jason Scully and the team over at Grappler’s Guide have managed to raise an incredible $30,886 to be given to these struggling gyms.

He confirmed to Jiu-Jitsu Times that thirteen BJJ academies received somewhere between $1,000 and $2,000 and the remaining ones received somewhere between $150 and $750. In total, the program has managed to give over thirty BJJ academies some form of financial assistance and Jason Scully should genuinely be proud of the effort he’s made. It will certainly make a difference to those gyms.

It’s amazing that anyone in the community has been able to give support to it’s struggling members, and to be able to help to the tune of over $30,000 is truly incredible. Many gyms across the USA and all across the world are hitting a period now where the extended closure may be leading to some very difficult decisions and may even lead to them having to shut their doors for good. Other gyms are actually doing the opposite and are deciding to open directly against the lockdown in order to help keep their business afloat and continue training their members, like Rice Brothers Jiu-Jitsu in Redding, California.

Elsewhere in the world, Brazilian coaches, gym owners and fighters have banded together to peacefully protest the lockdown as they believe that they should be able to teach one-to-one or private classes with minimal risk.
