The eighth installment of Submission Underground is nearly here, and viewers can expect a seriously awesome night of tough matches between some top-level grapplers.
The main event of the evening will feature a match between Jake Shields and Austin Vanderford. Shields is an MMA fighter and BJJ black belt with a 3-0 record at SUG. He’s also made recent appearances at Polaris and Fight 2 Win. Vanderford is a 7-0 MMA fighter, with three of his wins coming via submission. He signed with Bellator in December and should be a well-matched opponent for Shields in the main event of SUG 8.
Multiple other MMA fighters will be taking to the mats, including UFC veteran Pat Healy and current UFC lightweight fighter Gilbert Melendez. Fabiano Scherner will be taking on Frank Mir, and Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez will also be going head-to-head.
Jiu-jitsu nerds, though, will be particularly excited to see Craig Jones making his SUG return, this time against Dennis Hallman. Jones has become of one of modern grappling’s biggest stars following his 2017 ADCC win against Leandro Lo, and his appearance at SUG 5 led to him heel hooking Ben Egli for the win. Hallman has a reputation for being a submission machine as well, with 40 of his 53 wins and none of his losses in MMA coming via sub.
Submission Underground 8 will stream live on UFC Fight Pass on Sunday, May 12.
