If someone ever tries to tell you that you “can’t,” direct them towards Itzel Bazua and remind them of how little that word actually means.
Bazua is not only part of a very small minority in the jiu-jitsu world, having earned her black belt — she’s also the very first female BJJ black belt in all of Mexico. Her journey to that coveted rank wasn’t easy, and her challenges in jiu-jitsu haven’t stopped since that belt was tied around her waist, but she’s hardly the type to quit.
The Jiu-Jitsu Times caught up with Bazua at the Abu Dhabi World Pro last week and talked to her about her journey. Take a look at what she had to say in the exclusive video below:
