After Alan Belcher was diagnosed with having a detached retina, Demian Maia was left without an opponent for his scheduled September bout at UFC Fight Night 22. However, the black belt will get in the octagon sooner than thought.
Demian will now see action even earlier than he would have, as he is penned in for the August 28 UFC 118 show in Boston, the same one where Frankie Edgar will defend his belt in a rematch with BJ Penn.
In for Belcher is Mario Miranda, a Brazilian fighter with a ten-win, one-loss record, his loss coming on his first venture into the UFC. Coming off a win over David Loiseau, Mario Miranda helped out Demian’s last opponent, Anderson Silva, who will go up against Chael Sonnen next Saturday.
