“If you don’t know Jiu-Jitsu, you’re in trouble”

When Royce Gracie stepped into the octagon for the early UFC events, few in the world knew or understood the style Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

At the time, the battle waging in the octagon was to show which was the most effective martial art and, without gloves, time limits or weight classes, Royce went undefeated for 13 bouts, getting the submission in 11 of them.

Time went by and the experts in kicks, punches and wrestling went on to train Jiu-Jitsu and vice-versa. What would it be like doing MMA today if you don’t know how to fight on the ground? That’s more or less what Rener, Ryron and Ralek Gracie address in the video below.

“If you know any martial art but don’t know Jiu-Jitsu, you’re in trouble,” says Ralek.

What do you think, dear reader, is there any way to do MMA if you don’t know Jiu-Jitsu? What about gentle-artists, do they have a chance of winning using only their grappling knowledge? Let us know in the comments field below:
