While some BJJ academies are struggling to reopen after the first lockdown, other states are about to shutdown for a second time due to an increase of Covid-19 cases. It looks like California is going to be the first to re-shutdown.
California in particular is home to many of the nation’s top BJJ academies and is the home of the World Championship IBJJF tournament.
It would seem that Californian’s celebrating of the 4th of July might be a cause in the increase of cases.
The idea of closing other states again has begun to take hold as well.
This puts a huge damper on BJJ gyms who are struggling to keep their businesses open. Students continue to contribute to their academies because of loyalty and online instruction but this is not a long-term sustainable business practice.
I hate to be a “Debbie downer” but if you are able to train right now, you better get it in while you can.
Let’s all hope that this ends soon.
