It’s official, the IBJJF has now suspended all of their 2020 events indefinitely, in light of the recent Coronavirus pandemic. This comes after the IBJJF initially announced that they would suspend the first few events that were set for 2020, like the Pan-Ams and the Masters International Europe Championship. The sport’s premier organisation made the announcement in a statement posted on their website:
The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, in accordance with the restrictions imposed by the health authorities during the COVID-19 pandemic, reports that:
All events on the 2020 sports event calendar are suspended until conditions are safe to resume competitions.
The IBJJF will continue to work with governments, world health authorities and local communities in regards to travel restrictions, public transportation, hospitals and health networks, on the gathering of people and contact sports restrictions, to meet the demands of large sporting events before actively restarting the tournament season safely and legally.
The IBJJF would like to inform all athletes who had a valid IBJJF membership until the moment the calendar of events was interrupted due to the pandemic, will have their membership extended for as long as the Federation is prevented from doing events. The period from March 1, 2020 until the date when our next event is held, will add the expiration date of the membership
We are joining our efforts with many leaders in the Jiu-Jitsu community and are confident that we will overcome this challenge. Hoping that we can return to doing what we love the most as soon as possible. We hope that all of you and your family members are safe and healthy. Together, we are going through a delicate time. A test of patience and endurance, as a father/mother, brother/sister, son/daughter, and friend. Those who learned the noblest values through the years of Jiu-Jitsu training will be able to show resilience, never give up, and show the capability of winning this one more fight.
