Below is the complete line-up for the IBJJF FloGrappling Grand Prix.
On Friday, October 28, the IBJJF and FloGrappling will hold the largest Grand Prix (GP) event yet, featuring three superfights, a medium-heavy male bracket, as well as the first-ever GP bracket.
All matches will be conducted under standard IBJJF black belt rules and will be in the gi.
Below is the current line-up for the IBJJF GP:
Male Medium-Heavy GP:
- Isaque Bahiense
- Manuel Ribamar
- Ronaldo Junior
- Andre Porfirio
Fresh off a no-gi win over Mica Galvao under ADCC rules at BJJ Stars 9, Dream Art’s Isaque Bahiense might be an early favorite, but he’ll face plenty of stiff competition. A 2018 World Champion, Bahiense’s solid takedown game and explosive guard passing serves him well under IBJJF rules.
Atos representative Ronaldo Junior uses a similar approach, relying on his relentless guard passing to wear down his opponents over the course of the match.
If Bahiense and Junior are the field’s guard passers, then Manuel Ribamar and Andre Porfirio are the guard players. Look for Ribamar in particular to use his advanced lapel guard techniques to slow down the bracket’s aggressive top players.
Female Light GP:
- Luiza Monteiro
- Anna Rodrigues
- Mayssa Bastos
- Janaina Lebre
The inaugural women’s GP is stacked with talent. All eyes will be on two-time world champion Anna Rodrigues. After spending the bulk of her career competing at light-feather and feather, the Dream Art athlete has recently moved up to lightweight, where she recently won no-gi Pans. One of the most dominant competitors of the past two years, Rodrigues could have the chance to avenge a 2018 loss to Luiza Monteiro.
Rodrigues could also square off with Mayssa Bastos – arguably the sport’s most technical grappler. A three-time world champion and expert berimbolo player, Bastos will be giving up significant size against all opponents, as she typically competes at rooster or light-feather.
Superfights
- Jonatha Alves vs. Mathias Luna
- Fellipe Andrew vs. Roosevelt Sousa
- Tainan Dalpra vs. Rodrigo Lopes
Jonatha Alves will put his Art of Jiu-Jitsu style passing up against Checkmat’s Mathias Luna in a match-up between two of the sports best tacticians.
Also, top IBJJF competitor Fellipe Andrew will square off with recent ADCC veteran Roosevelt Sousa in a battle of heavyweight footlock specialists.
And finally, Tainan Dalpra – widely considered the best pound-for-pound gi grappler on the planet – will take on medium-heavy competitor Rodrigo Lopes.
