The IBJJF was one of the first major grappling organisations to announce that they would be suspending all future events due to the recent Coronavirus pandemic and they have now revealed on Facebook that they’re willing to extend any paid up membership. Their reaction to suspend events came after ADCC Mongolia was cancelled due to the country being near the epicentre of the outbreak. Around the same time that the IBJJF started to take action by suspending registration to upcoming events, the UAEJJF also mirrored their approach by postponing all future events indefinitely.
While the IBJJF is often criticized for being the only major grappling promotion that requires a yearly membership on top of the entry fees for any competition, it’s welcome news that they’re choosing to extend any paid memberships for the time that competitions have been suspended. This was confirmed via the official IBJJF Facebook account in the below post:
Competitors are clearly getting angsty at having already missed two months of action and potentially many more, but at least one promotion has managed to stage elite-level events closed to the public, Submission Underground 13. While Chael Sonnen’s baby wasted no time in getting back to action, it will shortly be joined by Fight 2 Win, who have already announced several big name matches for their next two events. On top of this, Submission Underground 14 has already scheduled another match for Craig Jones for the end of the month and Fight 2 Win has planned several other events for the coming weeks, with no lineup as yet.
