Hyyyyype: Malfacine, Keenan, Aly, Andrew, do Val at the Euros this month
Bruno Malfacine. Ivan Trindade/GRACIEMAG
The traditional IBJJF season opener, this year the European Championship promises to be another record breaker for number of fighters signed up. Stars from around the world will gather in Odivelas, Portugal to fight for glory and gold. The event kicks off on January 20th or 21st, and runs until the 26th.
Among standouts in the adult black belt group, there will be world champions like Bruno Malfacine, Mikey Musumeci, Gabriel “Fedor”, Mahamed Aly, Mayssa Bastos, Talita Alencar and Claudia do Val scrambling it up with other well-known names and some up-and-coming ones.
Our eyes were drawn to the rooster division, which prior to its last update had Malfacine and Musumeci, with a rematch of their 2019 Worlds encounter expected. But after a review, Mikey wound up moving up to the light feather division. Now Malfacine will have to fight for the gold with the likes of Thalison Soares, Cleber Clandestino and Japan’s Nobuhiro Sawada.
Graciemag dove deep into the sign-up sheets and brought back the main names registered. Here they are.
