Heath Pedigo: “Not Showing Up To The Podium When You Lose Is One Of The Most Disrespectful Things…”

If you’ve competed (or at least been present) at a reasonable number of tournaments, you’ve probably experienced a situation when a person who isn’t the winner of their division… Doesn’t show up on the podium. And, well, Heath Pedigo says that this is one of the most disrespectful things a person could do. Pedigo shared his thoughts via social media: Coaches, parents, athletes and teammates: This is one of the most disrespectful things you can do to someone. You only show up when you win? You don’t want anyone to see you in a spot other than first place? The second you signed up for the tournament you accepted the rules. He emphasized the importance of respect towards everyone. Of being an example: No matter what happened, go get your medal, get on the podium and show some respect. Respect to the athletes you matched with and shared the mat with. Respect for the sport that you practice and love… And most of all, have some respect for yourself. I’m not sure how anyone convinces themselves it’s ok to do this, but it happens often—too often in this amazing sport.
