Two of the most technical athletes of the 2012 Worlds are women. Ana Carolina Vidal Lebre and Mackenzie Dern, both of Gracie Humaitá, won their respective divisions at the World Championship in Long Beach, their first where the brown and black belts compete separately.
Ana Carolina, who before getting pregnant scored a win over Kyra Gracie, made her post-partum comeback this Worlds, winning the lightweight division and leaving Leanna Dittrich (Avengers) with the silver and Angélica Galvão (Atos) and Jennifer Russel (Gracie Elite) with the bronzes.
Now Mackenzie Dern dominated the featherweight contest again, beating Tatiana Mayer Nascimento (Lotus) in the final, with Cristina Brandão (Cia Paulista) and Yasuko Mogi (De La Riva) in third.
