ADCC double-champ Gordon Ryan is joining the ONE Championship roster, according to an announcement from ONE Founder and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.
Details of the exact nature of Ryan’s contract and future with the organization are sparse, but Sityodtong has revealed that Ryan will be participating both in submission grappling and MMA.
There have been rumblings of Ryan making a switch to MMA for some time now, but until now, there haven’t been any big updates on the matter.
With the signing, Ryan joins Danaher Death Squad teammate Garry Tonon, who is currently undefeated in his time under ONE. Michelle Nicolini is another famous BJJ athlete who fights for the promotion, and record-setting BJJ World Champion Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida recently signed with ONE; he’ll have his first fight in April.
Ryan needs no introduction among BJJ athletes and fans. Though this will be his first professional MMA fight, he has a long and impressive record backing up his level of grappling. He’ll have his next big match in mere days as he faces Vagner Rocha in the main event of Who’s Number One.
