Well. Dammit.
As feared, the knee injury sustained by Gordon Ryan at last weekend’s Kasai Super Series has caused the fighter to drop out of his much anticipated Combat Jiu-Jitsu matchup against Fabricio Werdum in Mexico on February 22.
Ryan announced the news himself via Instagram stories, stating:
“Thanks for all the messages about my knee guys. Just got my MRI results back…I badly strained my biceps femoris tendon and completely tore my LCL. Unfortunately I won’t be able to compete in @combatjiujitsufn this time around. Sorry Everyone, sorry @victordavilaufc, @eddiebravo10p, sorry to fans and the competitors. Gonna see what the best plan of attack is now for a speedy recovery. I’ll be back asap my royal guards. Dont worry”
The injury occurred during a leg entanglement with competitor Joao Gabriel Rocha on Saturday, February 2, in Dallas:
This one sucks. Whether you wanted to see Ryan slap Werdum, or Werdum smash Ryan, it’s a blow to the card. No announcement has been made at this time about Ryan’s replacement. On the plus side, we still have viking king Josh Barnett and Brazilian monster Vinny Magalhaes, so there’s that.
