Garry Tonon has been helping former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre (GSP) for his upcoming return the UFC, and Tonon has faith in St-Pierre’s grappling skills.
“There’s definitely a good chance that you see GSP submit [UFC Middleweight Champion Michael] Bisping, for sure,” Tonon told MMA Fighting. “I don’t want to lead you into our plans and our strategies for the fight, I can’t give those details away, but is he capable of submitting Bisping? Absolutely. I’ll put it this way he’s far more capable of submitting Bisping than Bisping submitting Georges.”
Some people might write off Tonon’s comments as bias, but let’s not forget that GSP did have a reputation for being one of the best grapplers in MMA before his four-year hiatus from the sport.
Although St-Pierre hasn’t actually finished a fight since his 2009 encounter with BJ Penn
Georges St-Pierre will be making his way to the octagon once again this Saturday when he takes on Michael Bisping for the UFC Middleweight Championship at UFC 217. The Jiu-Jitsu Times will be covering all the main card action as it unfolds, so be sure to tune in to our site for results.
