John Danaher has just announced that he and Tom DeBlass have awarded Garry Tonon with his Second Dan in BJJ at the same time that he opens his new school, Brunswick BJJ. Alongside this promotion, Gordon Ryan was also awarded with his First Dan in BJJ by John Danaher as well. Both fighters have had great runs lately as they both impressed at ADCC 2019, Tonon winning his first medal and Ryan taking double gold. Gordon Ryan has then had a mixed start to 2020 as he was able to buy his first house, then had a great showing under two different rulesets against elite wrestler Pat Downey, before being left unpaid as a result of the shambles that was Substars.
Garry Tonon has been focusing more on the grand opening of his new school and of course, his budding MMA career. He competes over at ONE FC with a perfect 5-0 record and he’s been calling for a title shot against Martin Nguyen more and more lately.
“Garry Tonon opens his new school and gets promoted to Second Dan: It was great going out to The wilds of New Jersey and seeing the grand opening bod Garry Tonon’s new school! He has amassed a fine group of students and is doing an excellent job showing them the kingly art of Jiu Jitsu at @brunswickbjj Even though Mr Tonon is world renown as the most exciting grappler on the planet he does a truly excellent job teaching all aspects of Jiu Jitsu including the more mundane but absolutely crucial fundamentals, so that all ages and body types can be effective on the mat. Joining us were Gordon Ryan, who received his first degree promotion and Garry’s first coach and mentor, Tom DeBlass. It’s a very proud moment for me to see the all round success of my students, not just personal success on the stage, but community success through teaching and mentorship which expands and improves the sport we all love so much. Congratulations to Garry and all his students on the new school!”
