Garry Tonon Has A Interesting Way To Protest IBJJF Rules On Reaping And Heel Hooking, Is He Serious?

Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon — veteran Danaher Death Squad member, multiple-division EBI Champion, and future MMA fighter — is not too fond of the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s (IBJJF’s) rules on reaping and heel hooks.

In a Twitter post from earlier today (also posted on Facebook) Tonon asked who would like to go with him to an IBJJF competition and get disqualified for heel hooking and reaping. Garry said he wanted to do this as a form of protest against the federation’s rules:

Who would be interested in going to a random nogi ibjjf tournament with me and a huge group of people and intentionally getting dq’d for reaping and heelhooks as a form of protest?

We’re not quite sure how serious Garry is, but some people weren’t too happy with the idea. One person with the name jojogo310 asked Tonon how he’d feel “if some people sign up to your Bjj fights and then kick you in the face in protest?”

Garry not only argued against this individual, but mocked him/her in an Instagram post:

To address arguments that this protest would somehow be disrespectful or harm others. #dontfearthereaper #heelhooksmatter#vivalaresistance

Assuming Garry is serious, is this a proper way to protest a competition’s rules?

Sound off below or in this article’s Facebook thread.
