With another relic dug up from the files of Master Osvaldo Paquetá, today we go back in time to 2001 — the year of the fourth edition of the ADCC Worlds. Looking, as always, to recruit the very best grapplers in the world for the big one, the Emirati organization held trials in Rio de Janeiro, setting the stage for many big clashes, like the one we’re looking at now.
Leonardo Santos, the UFC lightweight, was still strictly a BJJ fighter representing Nova União in a bid to earn a spot in the ADCC Worlds in Abu Dhabi.
Across from him stood Marcelo Zulu, from Brazil’s national Greco-Roman wrestling team — an MMA competitor and currently a coach at CM System.
Check out, in this video, another gem for the early days of the ADCC.
