Autumn Gordon took up wrestling less than three years ago, yet she is already a Junior Folkstyle champion. Although she is new to the sport, Gordon has always been a talented athlete with a desire to succeed.
Autumn told Team USA: As a child, the competitive and physical nature of BJJ appealed to Gordon, and she started to train regularly. When she was fifteen, she won the World championship for her weight division and age group (blue belt) at the World Jiu Jitsu Tournament. At the time, she realized that she was a good wrestler and may be able to compete in that discipline as well.
Gordon received a great deal of assistance in making the switch to wrestling. Her coaching team included experienced instructors like Dugan Bentley, Jon Spires, Tom Good and Adam DiSabato.
In 2017, Gordon claimed victory in the 112 pound weight division at the Junior Girls American Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals. She defeated Alleida Martinez from California, who was a Cadet World bronze medal winner in 2016. The final score was 6/4, with an overtime sudden victory takedown.
Gordon’s next challenge is to qualify for the American Women’s World Team in April, as well as the main age group events in the summer.
