Floyd Mayweather already hung up his gloves last year after his win against Andre Berto, but it seems that he could be coming out of retirement pretty soon.
The undefeated boxing champion has found a new challenger in the person of Conor McGregor.
The UFC’s featherweight champ announced his own desire to retire early after a spat with Dana White.
Now both men might be lacing up and facing each other in an interesting clash of styles.
According to The Sun:
“Floyd went mad after Conor said he would crush him and knock him out in 30 seconds, he’s obsessed with making Conor eat his words.
Floyd is calling the shots. It’s strictly boxing and Conor will have to lose roughly 25lbs.
“It was agreed in principle on May 2, but Floyd wouldn’t reveal the identity of his opponent until last night when he told friends he’ll be fighting Conor.”
Mayweather would reportedly earn at least $144.8 million while McGregor would earn $10.1 million. In the MMA world, McGregor’s purse would be massive; however, when compared to the earnings of the best of the best in boxing, it would be rather small.
The Irishman was vocal about his opinion that he could defeat the American in an overall fight. The problem is that their match will be a straight-up boxing contest. Whether McGregor can win in Mayweather’s territory remains to be seen, but he will surely be the underdog.
Floyd was not pleased with Conor’s comments and is determined to knock him out quickly. Of course, it’s a big business decision as well. Floyd stands to earn at least $144.8 million while his opponent gets $10.1 million.
