GrappleFest is making its return in July, and their first announced match is showing some real promise for the card.
The promotion has announced that 2019 ADCC medalists Ffion Davies and Tayane Porfirio will face off in an open weight match when GrappleFest 9 kicks off on July 4.
The match will be a unique challenge for both competitors. The athletes are usually separated by multiple weight divisions — Davies competed in the -60kg category at ADCC, while Porfirio normally competes in the superheavy division and was in the +60kg category at the prestigious competition last year. While Porfirio has a combination of size, strength, and technique on her side, Davies is an extremely technical grappler, and her speed will certainly come in handy. Davies has also proven that she can handle herself just fine in open weight categories, having brought home double gold at Euros earlier this year to prove it. Regardless of the outcome, this will be a highly exciting match between two of the best jiu-jitsu athletes in the game.
According to GrappleFest, the UK-based event will comply with all government health and safety guidelines and take place behind closed doors.
GrappleFest 9 will take place on July 4 and can be streamed live on FloGrappling.
