Fernando Tererê and Marcelinho Garcia’s forgotten rematch

Tererê following his win over Marcelinho in ’03. GRACIEMAG

BJJ icons Fernando Tererê and Marcelinho Garcia once had a fight that went down in the sport’s history. At the 2003 Worlds, Tererê succeeded in sinking a triangle on the Alliance phenom to become a two-time middleweight champion. But few know that they actually fought again.

It happened in a superfight held at the 2004 Japan Open. The duel was marked by Tererê’s pressure from the top. Even without using his sharp judo skills on Marcelinho, he did better, employing dangerous passes and good back-takes.

Watch, below, the lost video showing their rematch.
