Fernando Reis, Rafaela Bertolot win double gold at Rio Open 2019
Reis topping the podium.
Deodoro’s enormous Juventude Arena held last weekend the IBJJF’s Rio Internacional Open, and as usual, strong fighters from all of Brazil descended on Rio to compete.
Two names stood out above the rest: Fernando Reis (Alliance) and Rafaela Bertolot (GFTeam), each winning double gold.
For Fernando, the party started when he bested Jeancemy Santos (Jiu-Jitsu For Life) and bagged gold at heavyweight. Then he beat José Henrique Cardoso (Ceconi KMKZ) to claim the absolute.
Rafaela Bertolot shone as she defeated Nivia Oliveira (Gracie Barra) at middleweight, and later beat Carina Santi (G13), the super-heavy champion, in the women’s absolute final.
