Felice Herrig Thoughts On Her BJJ Purple Belt

Felice Herrig thoughts on her BJJ Purple Belt is that of pride and happiness. In fact, she received her purple belt two weeks ago under the tutelage of Jeff Curran. While this may seem like an insignificant accomplishment to other martial artists and MMA enthusiasts, Felice considers this a major step in her life. In fact, whether for brown, black, or purple belts — Jeff Curran does not take the belt system lightly. He inspires all students — regardless of skill level — to work hard in and out of any training ring.

Felice is a proud MMA competitor that has learned a lot about discipline, self-appreciation, and self-worth. She has also learned how to keep balance in life, along with respect for her opponents and fellow competitors. From kickboxing and Muay Thai to grappling, she has learned a range of martial arts disciplines and plans to broaden her horizons with wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu.

This might seem like an insignificant accomplishment to most. It’s not like it’s a Brown belt or black belt and a lot of people have purple belts in jiujitsu. But not a lot have one under Jeff Curran as he does not take his belt system lightly.”

“I think I’m so proud because when I started my MMA career it was not because I loved mma or had any desire what so ever to be a ground fighter or learn that discipline.
At the time I pretty much did everything I could do in kickboxing and Muay Thai and there was really no future in a prosperous kickboxing career. Mma was the future .
I started my mma career as a professional mma fighter because I was already a professional kickboxer and could not start as an Amateur. I had zero experience on the ground. I had never taken a wrestling or jiujitsu class. When I started mma it was like I was starting all over again.”

Today was a good, good day. It's such an honor to get my #purplebelt under @bigfrogbjj . For those of you in the #jiujitsu community you know this is not an easy task to achieve. It takes hours and hours of Mat time. With that being said ,Jeff does not just hand out belts. He runs a very strict curriculum and takes a lot of pride in keeping the jiujitsu traditions alive. I can attest that he is a little more strict in giving out belts and you really have to earn them. Which is why I feel even more proud and honored to have received my purple belt from him. And this is not normal for him to give belts out in nogi class but he wanted to surprise me. And I was surprised. I even cried a little. Thank you Jeff. I'm grateful to be your student

“Anything I do I do with passion. And I was on a mission to become great on the ground * I still have a long way to go * I wanted to be a complete mma fighter.
I never cared about my belt ranking and I never thought I would love jiujitsu as much as I loved kickboxing.
After years of working with Jeff I developed a deep love and appreciation for the sport and am now on a mission to get my black belt under him one day”
