Las Vegas hosted the penultimate chapter of the WEC saga this Wednesday. The organization wraps up its story on December 16, after which all the weight divisions will be incorporated into the UFC. Proof of how it’s a good business move for the UFC: there was no lack of action in the blue cage.
In the evening’s main event, former featherweight champion Urijah Faber, making his debut as a featherweight, put to practice the Jiu-Jitsu he’s been working on with coach Fabio Pateta. The purple belt attacked with a guillotine, got back mount and choked Japan’s Takeya Mizugaki unconscious with a rear-naked choke. With the first-round triumph, Faber leaps to the top of divisional contenders, now in the UFC.
On the main card, Joseph Benavidez was superior to black belt Wagnney Fabiano. He persisted repeatedly with a guillotine that ultimately took in the second round.
