Unfortunately, Fight 2 Win’s plans to host their 158th event this Friday night in Philadelphia have been cancelled after new COVID-related lockdown restrictions were announced for the city.
A post from F2W CEO Seth Daniels first announced that the lockdowns might impact the event, set to take place in just a few days. Hours later, the lockdown time was confirmed to overlap with the event, meaning F2W 158 would have to be pushed back to a later date and likely a different location.
Daniels released an emotional and grateful message to F2W fans upon sharing the news:
“Just got the news that Philly is shutting down Friday at 1201am meaning we can not do the event on Friday Night. We were able to put on 5 events and produce 4 mma events and a boxing event in the past 4 weeks in Philly. The worst part of this is we were just getting things going, we just brought 30 people back to work, just got the gyms rolling now to have to shut down again is devastating. However this city is tough, the people are tough and they will get thru this. We will be back as soon as the lockdown is lifted. I love the city and people of Philly thank you for your support, see you soon.”
Daniels said the team plans to put on one more event this year, likely to take place on December 4. A location hasn’t yet been decided, and Daniels assured fans and athletes that they would be making the best choice for both the company and the BJJ community.
The Jiu-Jitsu Times will provide updates on this situation as it develops.
