Flyweight up-and-comer Erin Blanchfield opened some eyes on Saturday, February 18 at UFC Vegas 69 by finishing former division champ Jessica Andrade with a rear naked choke in the second round of the main event.
Upon emerging victorious from her fight, Blanchfield immediately called for a title shot, asking for a chance to fight the winner of March 4’s showdown between long-reigning flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko and challenger Alexa Grasso. While Blanchfield claims to feel confident against both women, she’s particularly hungry for a shot at Valentina.
In a statement to MMA Junkie at a post-fight press event, Blanchfield remarked, “I would definitely prefer Shevchenko. I think she beats Grasso. I think Grasso is a very tough fighter, but I want to be the one to take that title from [Shevchenko].”
Time will tell whether Blanchfield gets her wish.
