With the impendence of the BJJ Worlds — the event that kicks off the scorekeeping for a new season, — the IBJJF has published its list of champions for the 2017/2018 season concerning male and female black-belts, teams, and the Grand Slam (Worlds, Euros, Pan and Brazilian Championship).
Erberth Santos (Esquadrão de Jiu-Jitsu Brasileiro) topped the men’s rankings. Following a season where he lost the lead in the last tournament to Leandro Lo (NS Brotherhood), this time Erberth amassed 1,434 points, trailed by Lo’s 1,305 and Lucas “Hulk” Barbosa’s (Atos) 1,175.5. Noteworthy about this list is the rise of non-Brazilians, with three names showing up in the top 10: Keenan Cornelius, Adam Wardzinski and Gianni Grippo.
Tayane Porfírio sat at the top of the women’s list with 2,412 points. Then came Cláudia do Val (De La Riva) with her 1,969.5, and Bia Mesquita (Gracie Humaitá) rounded out the top 3 with 1,947.
Erberth and Tayane will each be awarded 15,000 dollars for their performance, with 4,000 going to each list’s second-place finisher and 1,000 going to third place.
In the teams’ championship, we had the same winners as in the previous season. Overall, Gracie Barra topped the podium, with Alliance in second and Atos in third. As far as Grand Slam points go, we have Alliance in first, Atos in second and Gracie Barra in third.
