Erberth Santos wins double gold at South American Jiu-Jitsu Championships

The second last IBJJF event in Brazil for the 2017 season, the South American IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship brought top talent to Barueri in its latest installment, held between Thursday and Sunday.

Erberth Santos snatched gold in the ultra-heavyweight and absolute divisions. He finished Antonio Assef (GFTeam) in the former, and in the latter edged out heavyweight champion Dimitrius Souza (Alliance) on advantages over a 6-6 tie on points.

“This championship was a real test for me,” Erberth told Graciemag afterwards. “I haven’t trained since the worlds — neither preparing to fight nor doing physical training — due to the opening of my gym. I was in doubt over whether I’d sign up, but my students pushed me, and it all worked out. I got a finish in every fight except for the absolute final with Dimitrius, and I’m nothing but thankful to my fans and students.”

Carina Santi (G13) and Bia Basílio (Almeida JJ) won gold at their weight divisions and closed out the women’s absolute.

Cicero Costha Internacional won the teams competition in the men’s section, and GFTeam was victorious in the women’s section. Results below, as provided by the IBJJF.
