Fight 2 Win is following up their first female-only event at F2W 162 with a second at F2W 165, and they’re bringing in a banger of a main event.
The promotion has announced that current welterweight gi champion Maria Malyjasiak will be taking on Elisabeth Clay in the main event of the evening to see if she’ll retain her title or if a new champ will be crowned.
Malyjasiak claimed her title at F2W 154, where she kneebarred Nathiely de Jesus to take home the belt. The win was considered an upset, but to underestimate Malyjasiak is a mistake. She’s won gold at Pans in both gi and no-gi, and her multiple medals in high-level judo competitions back up the fact that she knows how to use a gi.
Clay is a F2W veteran who’s best known for her no-gi work, and though she was only promoted to black belt in November, she’s been known as a “black belt killer” for ages. Though Rafaela Guedes claimed the welterweight no-gi title when they faced off in the main event of F2W 158, Clay still has a host of impressive wins on the stage, having defeated names like Kendall Reusing (F2W 143) and Luiza Monteiro (F2W 147) last year. Will she be able to claim the welterweight title in the gi, or will Malyjasiak hold onto her well-earned belt?
Theirs isn’t the only title match on this card — current no-gi bantamweight champion Amanda “Tubby” Alequin will be defending her belt against Gabrielle McComb, who won No-Gi Pans in 2018 and followed it up with Pans gold in both 2019 and 2020. This match will be particularly interesting — the two faced off in the finals of Pans last year, with McComb coming away with the victory after a hard-fought battle. This will be a rematch that jiu-jitsu lovers can’t afford to miss.
Finally, in another star-powered match that evening, Jessica Flowers will be going up against Luiza Monteiro. Both of these competitors also had successful showings at Pans last year, with Monteiro closing out the absolute division with teammate and fellow F2W 165 competitor Rafaela Guedes, and Flowers closing out the super heavyweight division with teammate Kendall Reusing. Both of these athletes have multiple world championship titles (and a few highly impressive F2W appearances) to their name, and their match is sure to bring the fireworks.
As always, we’re guaranteed to see dozens of other exciting matches before the main card for this F2W event, so make sure you’re watching on Saturday, February 27 when F2W 165 streams live on FloGrappling from Dallas, Texas.
