Dustin Poirier has a habit of making sure that his fight night appearances contribute to good causes, often through his Good Fight Foundation nonprofit. As he heads into Saturday’s main event against Dan Hooker, Poirier is once again focusing on his local community, this time helping UFC viewers enjoy some good food on him while helping out a local business where he lives in Lafayette, Louisiana.
The Good Fight Foundation will be supporting local eatery Broaddus Burgers on Saturday night from 5pm to close by paying for the meals of every patron who comes in to dine. The organization will pay for a burger, side dish, and drink for every customer, plus an appetizer for every group of three. Alcohol, however, will have to be purchased separately.
Poirier described his motivation for the effort in an interview with MMA Junkie. “I think it’s good to have everyone come together and talk over a common ground of fighting. With everything that’s going on with this separation of people to have something to cheer for locally and bring the community together. I thought that was good idea.”
The fighter often auctions off his fight gear after UFC events to raise money for the causes supported by the Good Fight Foundation, but given that the world is in the middle of a pandemic, it’s no surprise that he opted for an initiative that didn’t require the transfer of clothing that had been worn for a fight.
This isn’t the first time Poirier’s organization has worked with a local restaurant for the greater good. In April, he teamed up with a pizzeria to deliver a thousand meals to hospital staff.
UFC Fight Night: Austin will take place this Saturday, June 27.
