Dillon Danis Might Make January Bellator Debut, Thinks Conor McGregor Can Handle ‘Sloppy’ Tony Ferguson

One of Brazilian jiu-jitsu’s most vocal and controversial stars, Dillon Danis, may be making his MMA debut at the beginning of next year.

Dillon was on Submission Radio today, and said he could be setting foot in the Bellator cage in January.

“I think I’m going to make my debut maybe January,” Danis told Submission Radio. “I was planning on December before this whole surgery thing happened, but I want to focus a lot more on my hands and stuff like that. But yeah, I think I’m going to go full in now to MMA, and maybe I’ll do some jiu-jitsu matches or maybe focus a little bit more on jiu-jitsu and then do both. I don’t know. I’m trying to figure everything out now. Honestly, it’s rough, you know?”

Naturally, Conor McGregor also came up in the conversation, as Dillon has worked with the UFC Lightweight Champion on his grappling.

Conor will almost certainly be taking on UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson for his next fight. Ferguson recently received his black belt from 10th Planet founder Eddie Bravo and has earned half of his finishes via submission.

Danis, though, has faith in Conor’s grappling skills and feels the Irishman will be able to handle the interim champ on the ground.

“A hundred percent,” Dillon responded when asked if McGregor could handle Tony’s grappling. “I don’t know what people judge that off of. I don’t know why they would say he [Ferguson] has the superior advantage on the ground or stuff like that. People don’t even know what Conor’s jiu-jitsu’s like or anything like that, so um…me training with Conor so much in jiu-jitsu, I feel like he’ll be fine on the ground, or even better.”

On the feet Dillon thinks that McGregor would knock “sloppy” Tony out.

“I think Conor’s going to pick him apart on the feet, most likely knock him out early. He would probably do whatever he wants with him. Tony’s very sloppy. If you watch his fights, he gets hit a lot, and when you get hit against Conor, you go out.”
