Demian Maia, who is currently on an impressive win streak, has asked Dana White for a shot at the welterweight title. However, he may have to wait in line, considering the numerous challengers facing the current title holder, Robbie Lawler.
Maia, still fresh off of his victory over Gunnar Nelson at UFC 194, had been contacted by Ralek Gracie, the founder of Metamoris, for a potential grappling match against Nick Diaz, who is still under UFC suspension. Given the obvious interest in such a bout, fans may be wondering why Demian Maia won’t be grappling Nick Diaz at Metamoris.
In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Maia announced that the Metamoris match with Diaz had been called off. Yet it is unclear exactly which camp pulled the plug. Diaz, however, has had had a history of calling off grappling matches at the last minute, as he recently did with Jiu-Jitsu world champion Braulio Estima. In any event, this is a match that fans will have to wait a bit longer for.
