It’s a battle between MMA legends: Demian Maia, one of the UFC’s most famously accomplished jiu-jitsu practitioners, will be taking on the arguable GOAT himself, Georges St. Pierre, in a submission grappling match at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 6 on December 14.
“Every now and then, something comes up that still does really motivate you,” wrote Maia of the news on Twitter on July 20. “Grappling [Georges St. Pierre] will be a huge challenge & great motivation. You GSP are one of the greatest competitors ever, whom I respect a lot. I’m game! Looking forward to competing at [the UFC invitational].”
The match between Maia and St. Pierre will mark the Canadian’s first return to combat sports competition since 2017.
