Fight fans, be prepared: Demetrious Johnson is returning to the cage in February, and he’ll be going for the ONE Championship flyweight title.
ONE Championship announced tonight during their Big Bang event that Johnson would be facing off against reigning champ Adrian Moraes for the title on February 24, 2021. The fight was originally scheduled for April of this year, but then COVID-19 happened, forcing the match to be postponed.
It’s been a minute since we’ve seen both of these fighters in action. Moraes last fought in January of 2019 when he claimed the flyweight title back from Geje Eustaquio, and Johnson’s last appearance was in October 2019 when he earned his third consecutive win.
Johnson is widely considered to be one of the greatest fighters of all time with a record of 30-3, and since making the transition to ONE, he’s been undefeated and has claimed the Flyweight World Grand Prix championship title. Still, Moraes is a submission machine with an impressive record of his own (18-3), and he’s been hungry for this match for a while.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this long-awaited fight will actually happen this time around.
