Who’s Number One: Ryan vs. Diniz is shaping up to be one of the best cards of the year, and FloGrappling has just announced their latest match confirmation for the event.
2019 No-Gi Worlds champion Dante Leon will be facing off against UFC welterweight title contender Gilbert Burns in a submission-only match at WNO on October 2.
Leon has quickly moved on from being a “rising” star to a superstar on the mats, getting big wins against names like Renato Canuto and fellow no-gi world champion Johnny Tama this year. Leon was also on the WNO 3 card, ultimately losing to Garry Tonon in the main event via referee decision. He’ll be eager to make up for the loss, and getting a win against a legend like Burns would be huge for him.
Burns is a well-rounded martial arts machine, though. A favorite MMA fighter among the jiu-jitsu community, Burns is in the midst of preparing for the welterweight title shot against Kamaru Usman (a fight that was previously canceled after Burns tested positive for COVID-19). But he’s still making time to showcase his grappling skills at WNO, and make no mistake — he’s earned the opportunity. A world champion in both gi and no-gi, Burns has also brought home gold at the UAEJJF Abu Dhabi World Pro. This will be his first jiu-jitsu match of the year, and all eyes will be upon him to see if he can pull off a huge win at WNO just a few months before the biggest MMA opportunity of his life.
This match will be submission-only. If no submission is achieved at the end of the fifteen-minute time limit, the result will be determined by judges’ decision.
Who’s Number One: Ryan vs. Diniz will take place on October 2 and can be streamed live on FloGrappling.
