As information continues to roll out about the first upcoming EBI-affiliated Jiu-Jitsu Overtime event, the promotion has announced a special match featuring two of the best grapplers on the east coast.
Silver Fox BJJ black belt Danielle Kelly will be going up against 10th Planet prodigy Grace Gundrum in a special EBI rules match at the July event.
Kelly is a recent black belt, having earned the promotion in January following thirteen years of jiu-jitsu experience. She’s a submission machine, most recently making headlines for her 17-second submission of UFC fighter Cynthia Calvillo at Quintet Ultra last December. Though the coronavirus shutdowns temporarily kept her out of competition, she’ll be looking to add another big win to her resume against Gundrum.
10th Planet Bethlehem’s Gundrum has been one of the sport’s most notable up-and-comers since before she even hit her teens, and over the years, she’s become an even more terrifying force to be reckoned with. She fought to a draw against four-time black belt world champion Rikako Yuasa at Quintet Fight Night 3 and has defeated notable athletes Jessa Khan and Alyssa Wilson in competition. She has her work cut out for her against Kelly, but it would be a grave error to underestimate this “silent assassin.”
Kelly vs. Gundrum will accompany a first-of-its-kind featherweight tournament featuring a “rear naked choke shootout” between other rising stars in the submission grappling world, including Jordan Holy, Tom Halpin, Keith Krikorian, and Ethan Crelinsten. There will be no traditional regulation period, and the matches will consist exclusively of EBI overtime rules.
Jiu-Jitsu Overtime will take place on Sunday, July 19 and can be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass.
