Dana White: Miesha Tate “should be the main event”

UFC 200 may go down as one of the most chaotic events in UFC history . . . or at least in 2016.

First it was going to be headlined with a rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz. Then, after Conor decided he no longer wanted to “dance” for the UFC and Nate didn’t want to fight anyone besides Conor, the main event was scrapped.

Luckily, Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones came along to save the day.

Or so it seemed.

Only days ago, Jon Jones failed an out-of-competition drug test and forced the UFC to cancel the light heavyweight championship unification bout.  Anderson Silva would eventually fill the slot left by Jones, but the fight lost its main event status.

Brock Lesnar vs Mark Hunt was then supposed to headline the card.  This made sense, considering Lesnar’s comeback is a huge deal for the UFC.

However, like all the headliners that came before it, this main event just wasn’t meant to be.

Now, with only two days left, it appears the world’s biggest mixed martial arts promotion finally has a secure headliner for its 200th pay-per-view event: a bantamweight championship match-up between the newly crowned queen, Miesha Tate and challenger Amanda Nunes.

In an interview on Thursday, President Dana White explained the UFC’s reason for putting Tate and Nunes at the top of the card.

“She’s the champ. What Miesha accomplished a few fights ago, you can’t disrespect that. She should be the main event. She deserves to be. The other title fight is an interim title fight. It’s the right thing to do.”

Seems like a legit explanation. What do you think?
