Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and Bellator welterweight Evangelista Santos – better known to MMA fans as “Cyborg” Santos – does not plan to spend much time outside the cage.
Though he suffered what was, even by MMA standards, one of the most gruesome head injuries in sports, Santos told MMA Fighting that he plans on returning to the cage soon.
“I had surgery yesterday, and thank God everything went fine. It lasted seven hours, and the hospital will give Bellator a full report later today. God guided the doctors in this surgery so everything went well. They didn’t tell me anything about timetable for recovery yet. I’ll be released from hospital today, and then they will tell me how long it will take. But it will be fast. I’ll be back soon.”
So far, the 38-year-old Santos is 1-2 in his Bellator career and holds a 21-18 record in mixed martial arts.
He is well known for being the ex-husband of Invicta FC Featherweight Champion Cristiane Justino Venancio – better known as “Cris Cyborg.”
