Controversial Guillotine TKO After The Fight Is Over At UFC Atlantic City

In his Saturday night UFC debut, Ricky Simon won over Merab Dvalishvili with a controversial finish. After dominating three rounds, Dvalishvili found himself tired and stuck in a top mount guillotine. With only 50 seconds left on the clock, he managed to ride it out and never tapped, but did he float in and out of consciousness?

The New Jersey State Athletic Commission made the call for a TKO at five minutes of round three. They cited that Dvalishvili did go out of unconsciousness; therefore, it was qualified as a TKO in Simon’s favor.

Dvalishvili argues that he was just tired and knew there wasn’t much time left on the clock, so he rode it out knowing he would win the judges’ decision.

Was it a clear TKO or did the commission make the wrong call? This is why you don’t leave it up to someone else to decide.
